June 2002 saw 67 members of the Missouri Chorale Society being hosted in homes of Ludwigsburg families. The Choir gave several performances, formal in the Forum, informal in the MarktPlatz and one in Stuttgart in the Embassy. Oct. 5, 2002 we sent local artist, Jan Groenemann, with many of her paintings, to Ludwigsburg where she exhibited. June 6 2002 saw 17
Lutheran High students leave and later in June
another group from Duchesne High left for their exchange visit. In
October 2002
we welcomed over 50 Ludwigsburg students for their visit to St. Charles. In March of 2003, 21 students from St. Charles High and St. Charles West High made their annual exchange visit to Ludwigsburg. Lord Mayor Christof Eichert and his wife, Renate, made their official farewell visit to St. Charles May 2003. They came to say goodbye since he made the decision to not run for a second eight-year term as Oberbuergermeister of Ludwigsburg. The Mayor has been a true and loyal friend of the St. Charles Ludwigsburg, showing his support in every manner of which he was capable. We will dearly miss him and his lovely wife, Renate, and all wish him well in his new position in the public sector. October 2003 saw 49 Ludwigsburg students and 5 teachers arrive for their annual stay with student families at Francis Howell, Lutheran, St. Charles High and St. Charles West High.2004 -- A year of many
activities for the members and friends of the St. Charles Sister Cities
organization. In January, many of the members had our own field trip when we visited the St. Louis Art Museum’s special “Contemporary German Art”. After the guided tour, we dined in the new Puck’s Museum Restaurant. The main event this year in St. Charles was the visit in May by 32 Ludwigsburgers arrival to join in the Lewis and Clark celebration. They came, they played, even music with their wonderful Ludwigsburg Brass Quintet, and they captured the hearts of many St. Charlesans at a reception held in the beautiful new Foundry Arts Centre.
In September, 2004, twenty-three
St. Charlesans visited
Ludwigsburg and stayed with friends for one week during the wonderful
Venezia
Fest. After the week in our Sister City, 16 members left for four days
in
Berlin, then 3 days in Dresden before heading back home to St. Charles.
The two
weeks were very special times with many fond memories left over. October 2004 we welcomed and entertained 24 Ludwigsburg students and their teacher/chaperones, Dr. Alex Folk and his wife, Dagmar, and Frau Petra Rank. The Ball was a very enjoyable evening with good company and wonderful inspiration from several St. Charles Students’ comments on their experiences as Exchange Students. Last year’s Buergermeister Ball was a huge success, socially and financially. We made a net profit of $9,000, and this past year, we spent $8,900 on students’ Exchanges. This included subsidizing the field trips for the Ludwigsburg students who visited St. Charles High, St. Charles West High, Francis Howell North High and Lutheran High last October, and then contributions were made to our student essay winners and teachers. 2005-- Our Memories are still in the making.... |
